After being told by my daughter Bikram yoga would be too difficult for me, I signed straight up for my first class! Starting at the age of 54, I found I had many physical problems with my body. After practicing my first few classes, I knew it was difficult for me! However, I endured, as I could see a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel. I could feel my body opening up, ever so slightly. I was a single mother working shift work, so unfortunately could only make the time to practice randomly.
I started practicing regularly when my son in law became a teacher. I made the time in my day to practice as I wanted to support something he was so passionate about, as well as realising how good the yoga was for me.
I became dedicated to my practice and naturally felt the next progression was to become a teacher. One of the best decisions I have made was to leave my job after 33 years and attend Bikram Yoga Teachers Training in Hawaii. Even though I made some wonderful friends, one of the most important outcomes from training was the confidence I developed. Prior to attending training, I did not have the ability to speak in front of a large group. Now I find it inspiring and energising to teach a class, big or small.
Together, Rachel and I are creating a studio where students from all walks of life feel welcome. We believe Bikram yoga is for everybody and every body! Bikram Yoga is a challenging way to bring confidence and joy into your life, as well as health and energy.
See you soon!
